Amnesty International today released an open letter to new Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper outlining the human rights priorities they want the new government to address.

Amongst those priorities is a Lubicon settlement.

Specifically, Amnesty International calls on Canada to "[give] immediate priority to Canada's compliance with outstanding recommendations of United Nations treaty bodies in respect to the human rights of Indigenous peoples in Canada. This should include providing federal negotiators with a clear mandate to reach a just settlement of the land rights dispute with the Lubicon Cree in northern Alberta, as has been repeatedly urged by the UN Human Rights Committee."
